MADRID -- Spain will join several other European countries on Sunday, January 2, when an official ban on smoking in indoor bars and restaurants goes into effect.
Britain, France and Italy already have such a ban.
A ban on smoking in the workplace was instituted in 2007, but the nation's estimated 300,000 bars and restaurants were given the chance to opt out of the ban. Most did so.
